Get Em' to the Geek!

In the over abundant world of accessory and embellishment a new trend is a brew. Brimming to the boiling point of fashionability, frames for fashion, cheekiness or just plain fun can be found from high end boutique to korean kiosk. He Wore What (HWW) hit the streets of Toronto to snap up all the glassy guys and gals in specs, heading west to the opening of Opticianado. The Dundas West boutique is a Valhalla of vintage and fine eyewear carrying such coveted lines as Ted Lapidus, Cazal, and Anglo American Optical.

Lapidus's line, a collection that pioneered the unisex movement in the 50's has received a revival with scenesters scrambling left right and center dying to get their hand's on a pair of the french couturier's frames. Manufactured in a time where excellence and individuality were coveted qualities, its no surprise that the four eyed frames created at houses like Germany's Cazal are a vintage picker's holy grail. High quality plastics and metal blinkers handcrafted to perfection, even leather covered arms were on display at Opticianado, making the trans-TTC trip worth the hike.

As an easy way to change the look of oneself, we have been donning the masquerade look for hundreds of years. Today even the vision-able are slipping on these cheaters in the name of fashion.

"Its sexy to feel like a different person, almost like the specs are a type of armor, it changes the way I see and am seen." Paul Charbonneau tells HWW emphasizing that even though he has no prescription he has a wide variety and collection of the two-armed trenders."Its not fair, just because I have 20-20 vision shouldn't mean my look cant be a perfect 10!" Charbonneau, a choreographer, performer and champagne boy goes on to tell us.
Previously we have seen once nerdy no-no's make a splash in the arena of fashion- lest we forget the suspender craze? It just goes to show, in future, think twice before you knock the skinny kid at the top of the class; one day you may be paying top dollar for the very look you slushied. And in the end here's hoping Hermes decides not to pump out pocket protectors, but, who knows, if it’s unbelievable and you find yourself with your jaw on the floor, you’ll probably be asking “He Wore What”?

The Finger “Print” of Fashion

The streets of the world may have recently rid themselves of the soaked, icy, sea-salty reminder of winter paving the way for springs glowing rays. However, the sidewalks of fashion are freshly fleeced with next year’s yuletide must have’s.

It seems the sky’s of black have finally parted this F/W 2011 season and rained down a multitude of vibrant colors piercing enough to warm even the coldest sunglass-clad-front-row-spectator’s heart. Marigold is everywhere; from uber layered at McQueen to masterfully done knits at Balanciaga. Hanging up one’s veteran classic black pea coat is something this blogger is more than happy to do. Not that there is not a need nor a place for these six-buttoned staples, but the time is now to embrace color in a statement coat for F/W. A personal favourite, McQueen’s punchy lava hued overcoat with Mongolian goat collar- yes please!

And who could be more excited than yours truly for texture and print in the fall collections. Texture mix-matching and print-on-print-on-print had us here at “He Wore What” grinning ear to ear. Phillip Lim 3.1 paired delicately done wovens in shades of grey artfully. Like mountainside facades the texture and prints worked in perfect harmony resulting in a three dimensional experience for the viewing audience. When replicating these well-styled looks take a little more risk and don’t be afraid to over kill the use of different patterns. Use a variety of texture remembering to save room for a great solid color anchor piece to allow the outfit to balance out.

We have a whole S/S to enjoy the shortest shorts menswear has ever seen and have our go at a cropped silhouette. We promise to bring you all the missed attempts as well as tips on how to pull both looks off. But, with fall trends hotter than some of our past summer’s its difficult in this flip flopped world of fashion not to get excited and spill the beans on what to look forward to. Thank you for perusing this, our maiden post and remember if it’s unbelievable and your find your jaw on the floor, you’ll probably be asking yourself “He Wore What”?
